Project:

Manganese Removal from Groundwater

Client:

Severn Trent Water Ltd

When:

July ’07 to Feb ‘08

A local WTW currently uses a groundwater source known to have an elevated concentration of manganese and is currently treated by chlorination followed by sand filtration and bisulphite dosing.

Laboratory and site based pilot scale investigations were conducted by WatStech Ltd. to determine the maximum manganese removal possible with the current operational setup and the minimum chlorine dose required.

Initial laboratory tests of site media indicated extensive manganese deposits. Following media replacement on site and further pilot scale trials the capacity of existing filters for manganese removal and the optimum dose of chlorine required were determined.
